the rural Southland town of Gore, South Island, New Zealand. We have had the good fortune to have owned and bred some very lovely Boxers with good temperament and sound construction. We purchased our first Boxer in 1984, a big plain red dog called Blackmans New Boy In Town (Rocky) as a pet. Some-one told us we should try showing and we did and immediately were bitten by the 'show bug'.We decided then to purchase a bitch and were lucky enough to get a red puppy Beamis Justa Delight (Tara), a daughter of Ch Denem Spree's Delight who was a son of Ch Assisi Sprees Mr Magic (Jack) owned by Mr Colin Bradley of Denem Kennels. As time passed we decided to take a litter off Tara and again were fortunate enough to be able to use a very nice dark brindle dog - Ch Denem Dressed 'T' Command (Commando). Commando's mum, Marbelton Fortune Cookie was imported from England by Colin Bradley while in pup to Eng Ch Marbelton Dressed to Kill. The Commando - Tara litter was lovely and we kept two of the puppies Fortress High Voltage (Jay) who was a great showman with plenty of attitude, and Fortress Avenging Angel (Angel) who was an excellent brood bitch - she wasn't so keen on the show ring but her many strong qualities are still stamped on the younger generations here at Fortress Kennels. Angel produced four litters and everything bred here since has her in their line. Ch Fortress Stormbringer, Jerry was to become our first Champion he also won 2 BIS's and 1 RBIS, with his last big win being BEST IN SHOW at the age of 7 years and 4 months. Jerry has produced 3 lovely litters and we kept one offspring from each litter, Ch Fortress Firestorm Tori, Ch Fortress The Hurricane Baxter and Ch Fortress Matawhero Magic Rana. Both Rana and Baxter have gone on to produce beautiful puppies themselves. We are very grateful to Eileen and Gavin Custance for allowing us to use frozen semen from their lovely UK import Diesel - Aust Gr Ch Jimbren Sunseeker To Vineen (Imp UK to Aust) we used this over Rana - Ch Fortress Matawhero Magic who produced a stunning litter including two Champions - Gene - Ch Fortress Stormseeker, and Raine - Ch Fortress Kiss The Rain. Our next litter in 2009 was from Ch Fortress The Hurricane and Paris - Ch Eischied No More Tears At Fortress, a beautifully bred girl we purchased from Jan Mace of Eischied Kennels. We brought Paris into our lines to introduce a stronger head type and a bit of liveliness - we sure got both from the Baxter and Paris combination. This litter has grown to be lovely each with a delightful and very spirited nature! Rhett - Fortress Heaven Can Wait stayed with us and has caused many moments of hilarity with his antics. With the beautiful, heathy lines now established and some very exciting European lines to beintroduced we are looking ahead to an exciting future. In 2003 Norman passed his first Judging Exams and has since been promoted to the NZKC Open Show Judges List. |
